How to Do a Cable Woodchopper
Set a cable pulley above shoulder height and attach a handle or rope that you can hold securely with both hands.
Stand side-on to the machine with feet about shoulder width and enough distance to keep tension on the cable.
Reach toward the high pulley with both hands while keeping the trunk tall and the knees softly bent.
Brace, then rotate through the torso and hips as you guide the handle diagonally down and across toward the opposite hip.

Should Your Hips Rotate?

Cable Woodchop vs Pallof Press
The cable woodchop trains active rotation: you intentionally move through a diagonal rotational pattern.
- The Pallof press is primarily anti-rotation: the cable tries to turn you while you resist.
- They are complementary, not interchangeable, and can both belong in a complete core program.
Low-to-High Cable Woodchop

How Heavy Should Cable Woodchoppers Be?
