How to Do a Tibialis Raise
Wall position setup: stand with your back flat against a wall. Walk your feet forward about 1 to 2 feet away from the wall with legs fully straight.
Posture and heels: rest your butt and upper back against the wall, keeping your heels firmly planted on the floor and knees straight.
Dorsiflex ankles: exhale as you pull your toes and forefeet off the ground as high as possible toward your shins, flexing the tibialis anterior muscle.
Peak contraction hold: hold the top dorsiflexed position for 1–2 seconds, squeezing the muscles on the front of your shins.
Controlled lowering: inhale as you lower your toes slowly back to the floor under control over 2 seconds.
Repetition flow: tap your toes lightly on the ground and immediately initiate the next rep without resting at the bottom.

The tibialis raise is a specialized anterior lower-leg isolation exercise targeting the tibialis anterior—the primary muscle running along the front of your shin. Performed by leaning your upper back against a wall and dorsiflexing your ankles to lift your toes toward your shins, this movement builds shin strength, restores lower-leg muscle balance, prevents shin splints, and absorbs decelerative impact during running and jumping.

Why Tibialis Training Prevents Shin Splints and Knee Pain
The tibialis anterior acts as the front decelerator and shock absorber of the lower leg. When landing from a step, sprint, or jump, a strong tibialis anterior absorbs force that would otherwise strain the tibia bone or transfer up into the patellar tendon and knee joint.
Adjusting Difficulty with Wall Distance
The farther your feet are positioned away from the wall, the greater the leverage demand on your shins and the harder the exercise becomes. To make bodyweight tibialis raises easier, bring your feet closer to the wall; to increase difficulty, slide feet farther out.
