How to Do the Smith Machine Bench Press With Proper Form
Place a flat bench inside the Smith machine and lie down under the unloaded bar before adding your working load.
Move the bench forward or backward until the fixed bar path reaches a comfortable mid-to-lower chest touch point.
Set the safety stops just below your controlled bottom position and make sure you can rotate the bar into and out of the hooks safely.
Retract and depress your shoulder blades, keep your chest tall, and grip the bar slightly wider than shoulder width.
Unhook the bar and lower it under control toward your selected chest touch point while keeping the forearms stacked beneath the bar.
Touch lightly without bouncing, then press the bar upward along the machine's track until the elbows are extended.
After the final repetition, rotate the bar securely back into the hooks before relaxing your upper-back position.
